FREMONT, Neb. — The Democrats have officially entered the race for governor.

Former state senator Lynne Walz announced Wednesday morning that she is going to seek the Democratic nomination for governor in the May primary.

Walz had been mulling the decision for weeks, holding a listening tour around Nebraska last month.

She was a two-term state senator from Fremont.

In a statement announcing her candidacy, Walz says she can win as a Democrat, citing her two wins in the Unicameral in a district that twice went overwhelmingly for Donald Trump.

No other Democrat so far has filed to challenge incumbent Jim Pillen this year.
