What to know about Trump's Fed chair nominee, in one resume
By Bryan Mena, Amy O’Kruk, CNN
President Donald Trump has announced former Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh as his pick for the 17th chair of the central bank, one of the most powerful roles in the global economy. Warsh is subject to confirmation by the US Senate, and if confirmed, will succeed Chair Jerome Powell when his term ends in May.
The nomination comes after a monthslong search process spearheaded by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who whittled down an initial list of about a dozen candidates to four people. Trump has said repeatedly that he expects whomever he nominates for the top job at the Fed to push for lower interest rates. However, because of the central bank’s structure, the Fed chair is just one voter on the rate decision committee and cannot veto what the majority of the central bank’s 12-person group decides.
Here’s an overview of Warsh’s career and experiences over the past few decades.
