SIDNEY, Neb. — Wheat Belt Public Power District recognized the retirement of longtime employee Mark Cape, who concluded a 40-year career with the utility after serving in multiple roles spanning field operations and office work.

Cape began his career with Wheat Belt in 1985 as a groundman before advancing to journeyman lineman. In 1998, he transitioned into the role of maintenance digger truck operator, a position he held for more than two decades while supporting system maintenance and infrastructure projects across the district’s service area.

In 2023, Cape moved into the office as a staking technician, where he applied decades of hands-on field experience to project planning and design. Wheat Belt officials said the transition allowed Cape to bring his career full circle, contributing to system development from both operational and technical perspectives.

Wheat Belt credited Cape with demonstrating consistent dedication to the utility and its customers throughout his career, noting his long-term commitment to reliable electric service and teamwork.
