MADISON - The trial of a man suspected of a fatal stabbing is underway.

Rodolfo Castaneda-Morejon appeared in Madison County Court for a bench trial Monday morning. He's accused of fatally stabbing Yosvanis Velazquez-Gomez in 2017 in Norfolk and is facing a first-degree murder charge.

Castaneda-Morejon pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He had previously been found not competent to stand trial, and the process has been playing out for the past four years.

The trial began with evidence and witness testimony being submitted to Judge Mark Johnson.

According to Castaneda-Morejon's defense attorney, a police document still needs to be translated in order for the case to move forward.

The case is now under advisement by Johnson, meaning a verdict will be made at a later date.
