NORFOLK, Neb. -- It was finally time for the people of northeast Nebraska to get their bodies moving and they did so while also supporting a good cause.

Liberty Centre Services hosted it's 9th annual Cover Your Recovery Run Saturday and it welcomed everyone.

Executive Director, Patty Skokan, said the color run is supposed to be fun for all of its participants, but it's what the run represents that is much more important.

"Liberty Centre, here in northeast Nebraska, wants to do our part to make sure that everyone with a mental illness gets a great chance to recover, to live life, and to have fun," Skokan said.

The color run included a 5K and 10K trail for adults with mile-long kids run along a trail filled with color stops where volunteers waited to cover runners in bursts of vibrant colors.

The Color Your Recovery Run also had activities aside from the exercising portion, like a photo booth, a silent auction, and much more.

The color run was originally hosted to promote mental health awareness but has grown to become a fundraiser to help provide resources to those with mental illness in the northeast Nebraska area.

All of the money made from the color run will go toward funding those services provided by Liberty Centre, to help those recovering from mental illness and/or substance abuse.

Programs Support, Brittney Krings, said it was truly a group effort of everyone from the Centre to coordinate the event and make it the best it could be.

"Just a lot of hard work from a lot of team members and staff," Krings said. "It's kind of chaotic to get to this point, but it's always such a fun morning when we get here to see it all come together."

The Color Your Recovery Run was a great way for everyone to join together and feel a part of something bigger than themselves while having a good time.

Color run annual participant, Michael Francavilla, said that he's been going to the run for years and that this year's cold weather wasn't going to keep him from showing up.

"For an early October day, it was cold," Francavilla said. "Other than that it was great. It's just fun to be a part of something with other people supporting the same cause."

The Color Your Recovery Run was called a colorful success by many who showed up ranging from volunteers to runners.

Liberty Centre was thankful to all who showed their support and sponsored the event.

They also are excited to welcome those who would like to show their colorful support at next year's run.
