Norfolk's newest housing development now open
NORFOLK, Neb- The older community of Norfolk now has a new option for housing.
River Fork Villas II cut the ribbon Wednesday, officially opening up the low income housing to renters.
“I think this is going to do tremendous things for Norfolk, and for Nebraska,” Congressman Mike Flood said.
The 18 unit development is for low income 55+ individuals.
The country is in a housing shortage and any new development helps the issue.
“Anytime you bring new housing stock into America, into Nebraska, into Norfolk that’s a solution. We need more of this, we need a lot more of this.” Flood said, “And it has to be affordable. You can build all the $500,000 homes you want, but people can’t afford those.”
The City of Norfolk has been adding these housing developments around the community with more to come.
The Executive Director for housing development, Rita Heinemann said she came in around the middle of this project but is excited to see the progress Norfolk is making.
“We need to keep building, and we are, we got some projects in the pipe coming down the line.” Heinemann said, “It means citizens have a chance to have, I mean as you can see a brand new place to live and affordable rents.”
The homes are on Canoe Street just off of South Victory Road.
The waitlist is open. For more information call (402)844 2080, or visit the city of Norfolk office behind Walgreens.
