Husker notes: Jasa fans nine, Buck goes deep in Nebraska's 3-1 win over Michigan State

Nebraska picked up its sixth consecutive home series win with a 3-1 victory against Michigan State on Saturday afternoon at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.

Nebraska (9-5, 2-0 Big Ten) scored three runs on eight hits and an error, while Michigan State (3-10, 0-2 Big Ten) totaled one run, six hits and an error.

Mac Moyer led the Huskers with a 3-for-5 performance that included a double and a run scored. Jett Buck went 2-for-4 with a double and a homer, and Will Jesske drove in the Big Red’s first run of the day.

Carson Jasa improved to 2-1 on the season, striking out nine batters across five innings while allowing one run on four hits and six walks. Ryan Harrahill recorded an out before Caleb Clark worked 1.2 clean frames with two punchouts. Cooper Katskee picked up his first save of the season, dealing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and a walk.

Michigan State broke through in the fourth with a pair of hits and two walks. A single and a double down the left-field line had runners on second and third with one out, while two walks gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

Nebraska answered immediately in the bottom of the fourth. Buck doubled to center and Jesske followed with an RBI single through the left side to score Buck and tie the game at one.

The Huskers grabbed their first lead in the fifth on an unearned run. Moyer doubled to left and scored when Overbeek reached on a fielding error at first base. Nebraska loaded the bases with two outs but couldn’t add to the lead, holding a 2-1 advantage through five innings.

Buck doubled the Big Red’s lead to two after sending an 0-1 pitch 376 feet to the berm in left field for a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Katskee worked around a one-out walk in the eighth and retired the Spartans in order in the ninth to seal the 3-1 victory for the Huskers.

Nebraska and Michigan State conclude the series tomorrow afternoon at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park. First pitch between the Huskers and Spartans is set for 12 p.m. on B1G+.

Huskers Claim In-State Battle Against Omaha

Jordy Frahm threw 5.1 hitless innings and allowed only two hits, while the No. 10 Nebraska softball team hit two homers en route to a 4-1 win over the Omaha Mavericks at Bowlin Stadium on Saturday afternoon. 

With the win, the Big Red moved to 17-5 on the season and 3-0 on the weekend. 

Frahm (6-3) grabbed the win in the circle after tossing a complete game with only one run and two hits. She also struck out eight. Maddia Groff (4-3) took the loss for the Mavericks.

Ava Kuszak and Jesse Farrell each went 2-for-3 and hit solo shots for the Big Red, while Hannah Camenzind and Kacie Hoffmann accounted for the other two RBI.

NU opened the scoring in the bottom of the second on Farrell’s solo homer and extended the lead to 2-0 in the third after H. Camenzind, Farrell and Kuszak hit three straight singles and H. Camenzind crossed the plate on a Hoffmann hit. 

In the bottom of the fourth, Lauren Camenzind singled and went to third on an error that put Samantha Bland on base. She scored on an H. Camenzind groundout. 

Nebraska posted its final run of the game on Kuszak’s homer in the bottom of the sixth. 

Omaha hit a home run in the top of the seventh to account for its only score of the day.

The Huskers will take on the Mavericks again tomorrow, March 8. The game is set to start at 2 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on B1G+ and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network. Fans can purchase tickets at huskers.com/tickets.

  • Nebraska’s 17-5 record is its best start through 22 games since it was also 17-5 in 2013. 

  • Ava Kuszak has hit a home run in each of the Huskers' three home games this season.

Huskers Send Five to Big Ten Finals

State College, Pa. - Five Huskers advanced to the Big Ten finals as the Nebraska wrestling team sits tied for second in the team standings after the first day of the 2026 Big Ten Wrestling Championships. 

Brock Hardy (141), Antrell Taylor (157), Christopher Minto (174), Camden McDanel (197) and AJ Ferrari (285) will compete for Big Ten titles on Sunday, with the championship bouts starting at 3:30 p.m. (CT) on Big Ten Network. 

Nebraska trails Penn State, who leads the team race with eight finalists. The Huskers follow with five, while Ohio State has three finalists. All 10 Huskers remain alive in the tournament heading into the final day.

Five Huskers competed in the opening round, while the remaining five received first-round byes. At 125,  No. 11 Kael Lauridsen opened the day against sixth-seeded Jore Volk (MIN), falling by 16-0 tech. fall. At 133, No. 6 Jacob Van Dee was up next, scoring two reversals and a takedown to earn a 9-3 decision over No. 3 Caleb Weiand (MSU). 

At 149, No. 6 Chance Lamer recorded a first-period takedown and four-point nearfall to secure a 9-1 major decision over No. 11 Joey Buttler (IND). Making his Big Ten tournament debut at 165, No. 4 LJ Araujo pinned No. 13 AJ Rodrigues (MD) in 6:18. No. 3 Silas Allred closed the opening round at 184, tallying five takedowns and a four-point nearfall to earn a 20-2 tech. fall over No. 14 Cale Anderson (WIS). 

After his opening loss, Lauridsen moved into the consolation bracket where he edged No. 14 Abram Cline (MD) 1-0  to advance. 

Nine Huskers competed in the quarterfinals, beginning with Van Dee. The junior trailed early and managed an escape, but No. 3 Ben Davino (OSU) secured the 5-1 decision with riding time. No. 2 Brock Hardy opened his tournament at 141 with an 8-0 major decision over No. 10 Joey Olivieri (RUT). At 149, Lamer held an early lead against No. 3 Joseph Zargo (WIS), but Zargo used three late takedowns to claim a 9-6 decision. 

Top-seeded Antrell Taylor began his tournament with an 8-1 decision over No. 8 Luke Mechler (WIS). At 165, Araujo dropped a tight 3-1 decision to No. 5 Andrew Sparks (MIN). NU closed the quarterfinal round with four straight victories. At 174, No. 2 Christopher Minto scored three takedowns to secure an 11-1 major decision over No. 7 Ethan Riddle (MIN). No. 3 Silas Allred followed with a SV takedown to defeat No. 6 Dylan Fishback (OSU), 4-1. 

No. 2 Camden McDanel dominated his quarterfinal bout at 197, recording a 18-2 tech. fall over No. 7 Kael Wisler (MSU). At heavyweight, No. 2 AJ Ferrari secured a 5-2 decision over No. 10 Ben Kueter of Iowa. 

In the consolation rounds, Lauridsen continued his run with a 3-2 win over No. 12 Nick Corday (MSU), before falling 4-3 to No. 8 Dean Peterson (IOWA). The Nebraska native will compete in the seventh-place match Sunday morning. 

Van Dee responded with a dominant consolation victory, recording three first-period takedowns on the way to a 19-4 tech. fall over No.12 Blaine Frazier (IND). Van Dee later medically forfeited during his match but remains in the seventh-place bracket. 

Lamer fell by pin to No. 13 Clayton Jones (MSU) in the second round of consolations but will continue wrestling in the ninth-place bracket. Araujo picked up his second pin of the tournament, defeating No. 14 Jack Conley (MSU) in 2:17 before adding a 2-0 decision over No. 8 Paddy Gallagher (OSU) to continue his run through the backside of the bracket. 

Semifinal action began with Hardy at 141 against No. 3 Vance Vombaur (MIN). After a scoreless first period, Hardy scored a takedown and three-point nearfall to pull away for a 9-2 decision. The senior advances to the Big Ten finals for the second consecutive season. 

At 157, No. 1 Taylor faced Michigan’s No. 4 Cameron Catrabone. Taylor secured an early takedown and controlled the match for a 7-1 decision to earn a spot in the championship bout. 

No. 2 Minto followed at 174, defeating No. 3 Patrick Kennedy (IOWA) with a 5-1 decision. At 184, No. 3 Allred medically forfeited his semifinal match against No. 2 Max McEnelly (MIN). 

At 197, No. 2 McDanel used three late takedowns to secure the 10-3 decision over No. 6 Wyatt Ingham (WIS). No. 2 Ferrari closed the semifinal round with a 2-1 decision over No. 3 Nick Feldman (OSU). 

Nebraska closed the day with five finalists and sits tied for second in the team standings, with Ohio State at 112 points. 

The 2026 Big Ten Wrestling Championships resume Sunday with consolation semifinals and seventh-place matches at 11 a.m. (CT) on B1G+. Championship bouts begin at 3:30 p.m. (CT) on Big Ten Network. 

Huskers Split Two More Matches in Arizona

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Nebraska beach volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Sun Devil Classic at the Sun Devil Beach Volleyball Facility on Saturday, sweeping Arizona Christian 5-0 and falling to No. 19 Arizona 5-0. The Huskers now stand at 9-2 on the season.

Against Arizona Christian, Harper Murray and Andi Jackson picked up a win at No. 2 for the first team point, topping Jaiden Zeis and Jasmin Joseph 21-16, 21-17. Olivia Mauch and Manaia Ogbechie won their No. 4 match, rolling past Abby Siebert and Haley Tedrow 21-11, 21-19.

Gabby DiVita and Virginia Adriano clinched the sweep at No. 5, edging Kapri Espinosa and Lily Peterson 21-13, 22-20. Bergen Reilly and Teraya Sigler grinded out a three-set win at No. 1, topping Emee Fellens and Emily Casner 21-14, 17-21, 15-11, while Skyler Pierce and Laney Choboy also won in three sets at No. 3, outlasting Alyssa Robles and Abby Nelson 19-21, 21-17, 15-11.

Earlier in the day, the Huskers were competitive against No. 19 Arizona, pushing three of the duals to third sets, two of which ended in extra point deuce games. Reilly and Sigler pushed the Wildcats' No. 1 pair of Regan Holmer and Carlie Cisneros to the end, falling 21-23, 21-15, 15-17. Pierce and Choboy also went the distance in their No. 3 matchup against Adri Nieves Papaleo and Tylee Shires, 14-21, 27-25, 14-16. And Murray and Jackson forced a third set, dropping their No. 2 match to Ashlyn Zilliken and Madeline Walker 23-21, 16-21, 8-15. 

NU finishes the Arizona trip with a doubleheader against Park (AZ) on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. (CT).
