41-year-old woman dies of gunshot wound

CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- At about 12:47 p.m. on March 7, deputies responded to the 2300 block of Pine Avenue in Cheyenne on a report of a 41-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the head.  

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the victim unconscious but breathing, with a visible gunshot wound to the back of her head. The victim was immediately transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center (CRMC) before being life-flighted to UC Health in Fort Collins, Colo. The victim has since succumbed to her injuries. 

A juvenile was taken into custody at the scene. The investigation remains active, and further details regarding charges or the identity of the involved parties are being withheld at this time due to the age of the suspect and the sensitive nature of the case.  

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. There is no ongoing threat to public safety.
