By News Channel NebraskaNEBRASKA -- It's Nebraska Bird Month! State organizations and nonprofits are using the chance to celebrate wildlife and spread education about conservation efforts.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is marking the month of May by partnering with local parks and state organizations to share fun facts and bird events with Nebraskans.
You ‘toucan’ participate by documenting any birds you see throughout the month. Download the app ‘iNaturalist’ and whenever you find a feathered friend, upload a picture of them to the app on the Nebraska Bird of the Month page.
Or, try learning about new birds each day with Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue.
You can also find bird spotting events across the state, such as Fort Robinson's opportunity to hike near nestling ‘tweethearts’ on May 15.
May 8, Ponca State Park will also hold a wildlife viewing program while Rock Creek Station holds a bird hike.
Finally, Game and Parks will host “Ladies Run the Bird World” on May 18 to teach, virtually, how females birds run the roost.
