NORFOLK -- Friday was the Battle of the Badges, where firemen and police battle to see who can donate more blood.

Red Cross Account Manager Wendy Benson said she hopes people who can't make it find local places to donate through their website.

"We need blood at all times, blood is a perishable item," she said. "It lasts for only 42 days so every day we have to collect 36,000 pints of blood."

As of 2 p.m., firemen were winning by seven more donors. The drive runs until 5 p.m.
