NORFOLK -- “We were both out at the lake for Fourth of July, sitting together, and we were just talking. Then, we saw the one-year-old," said Kory Hildebrand. That's when his friend, Kris Johnson, jumped to action.

Hildebrand lost track of his buddy of four years but knew something was happening.

“I seen his leg in an unnatural position,” Johnson said. Johnson dragged the baby to a picnic table. The two teamed up to perform CPR on the one-year-old. The child, Bobby, had been visiting his grandparents with his family from Minnesota. It could have been a tragic day had the two not been there.

In gratitude, the two local heroes were awarded Wednesday by the Norfolk Fire Department. Fire officials ask people take note of the anecdote as a reason to get CPR training.

“I have learned CPR through the course of my career,” said Hildebrand. “I’d honestly tell everyone too."

They plan to meet up with Bobby’s family next summer at the lake again hopefully and see how he’s doing.
