Hale bale fire near Madison contained by fire department Thursday afternoon

Fire personnel in northeast Nebraska responded to hay bales on fire Thursday afternoon.

MADISON, Neb. -- Fire personnel in northeast Nebraska responded to hay bales on fire Thursday afternoon. 

Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk said that a few hay bales, along with some grass caught on fire southeast of Madison. 

Volk said the fire was contained by Madison Fire and local farmers, who used tractors and disking equipment. 

The fire happened just before 5 p.m. and was on the east side of 554 Ave. between 826 and 827 Roads.
