LINCOLN, NE — The Nebraska Legislature approved a resolution on Tuesday that honors the actions of the late Darin Koepke, an Agrex supervisor who was fatally wounded during an active shooting in October.

In October, a recently dismissed employee left the Agrex grain elevator facility in Superior, later returning and opening fire on employees at the facility. Both Koepke, of Hadar, and Sandra Nelson, of Kansas, were fatally wounded. It was later revealed that Koepke rushed to barricade the door, saving the lives of multiple people.

“Darin Koepke was a man fully invested in his community, often leading and inspiring others. He saved multiple lives in Superior, not simply of his coworkers, but people he considered family—that’s the kind of man he was. My condolences go out to his family,” said State Sen. Mike Flood, who introduced the resolution.

Koepke is survived by his wife Kelli Koepke; daughters Kayla Scalise and Krystina Koepke; grandchildren Naomi, Celeste, Uriah and Malachi Scalise; father Larry Koepke; brother Dennis Koepke; sister Dawn Schroeder; in-laws and numerous extended family members.
