NORFOLK, Neb. -- It's the first day of Black History Month and a local college is helping celebrate the occasion.

The True Black History Museum Exhibit was on the Northeast Community College campus today from 11 AM to 3 PM.

The museum's current exhibit, "A Tribute to African American Journey," features over 150 artifacts from historic figures such as Barack Obama, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King Jr.

The creation of the true black history museum has brought an understanding of value and preservation to Black History Month.

"The museum was founded on two important things. Preserving the history of African Americans and to show that black people have value," said Janay Craft, the Director of Operations for the True Black History Museum.

The exhibition was co-sponsored by the college's Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Alliance, Student Activities, and the Norfolk Area Diversity Council.
