Wind chill warnings, winter weather advisories issued

NORFOLK, Neb. -- Parts of northern Nebraska are expecting winter weather this week, with winter weather advisories issued for Cherry, Keya Paha, Boyd, Brown, Rock, Knox, Cedar and Dixon Counties.
Virtually all of Nebraska is also under a wind chill advisory or a wind chill warning, with most of the upper half of the state in a warning. The warning stretches from the far western edge of the Panhandle to O'Neill.
Only 20 far eastern counties remain unaffected by wind chill warnings or advisories.
In the eastern third of the state, wind chills could get as low as 25 degrees below zero, while the Panhandle could see wind chills dip as low as 40 below zero.
Meanwhile, chunks of the state could see snow, with the far northern part of Nebraska expected to see the highest accumulation. Sheridan County could get up to six inches of snow, while Cherry, Keya Paha, Boyd, Brown, Rock and Holt Counties could see up to three inches. Morrill, Box Butter and Sioux Counties in the Panhandle could see up to two inches of snow, as could Knox, Cedar, and Dixon Counties in the northeast part of the state.
Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact morning of evening commutes.
The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
The wind chill warnings and advisories expire Tuesday afternoon, while the winter weather advisories expire Tuesday evening.
