LINCOLN - Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird has endorsed Patty Pansing Brooks for Nebraska’s First Congressional District seat.

Following is Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird’s endorsement statement:

Patty is an incredible leader. We’ve been so lucky to benefit from her leadership in the state.

She is both ferocious and compassionate at the same time, in a way that only Patty can achieve. She is strong in service to some of our most vulnerable members of the community.

She is looking out for young people who don’t have a vote.

She is looking out for LGBTQ+ people who don’t have all the rights they deserve.

She is looking out for all Nebraskans.

I want Patty to be my next Congresswoman. She’d be the first, and it would be an honor to call her that title. More importantly, it would be an honor to have her leadership at the federal level – her leadership is so desperately needed.

I am absolutely, 100 percent, proud to endorse her from day one, and I’ll be a champion for [her] on this journey.”

Pansing Brooks, a state senator representing Nebraska’s 28th legislative district, said she was gratified by the endorsement.

I am so grateful to Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird for her endorsement,” Pansing Brooks said. “She has been an excellent leader for Lincoln and she provides a wonderful example for all to follow. I look forward to working with her, as well as other mayors across the District, when I am a member of Congress.”

Pansing Brooks was first elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2014.
