Nebraskans still pinching pennies to fill gas tanks
While gas is expected to fall in prices, one trucker in Norfolk paid $800 to fill his semitrailer tank Wednesday, as opposed to the usual $500.
NORFOLK -- Gas prices fell Tuesday as the price of oil dropped below $100 a barrel, but Nebraskans are still pinching pennies to fill their tanks.
One woman told NCN she's been stopping in Norfolk through her commute, rather than her hometown of Yankton, S.D., to save 20 cents a gallon.
Another driver, Michael Toddmayer from Neligh, said that he still felt frustrated filling up his gas tank in Norfolk Wednesday.
"I remember 50-cent gas [...] Inflation has gone up, paychecks have stayed pretty much equal. People are fighting for their extra dollar and they're getting squeezed out of it," Toddmayer said. He added that he's moving to New Orleans soon for his music career -- and is hoping the gas prices aren't too much worse there.
Truckers driving through Norfolk agreed that they were in shock. One trucker at Love's off Highway 81 told NCN he usually pays $500 to fill the semitruck tank. Wednesday, he paid $800.
Governors in some other states, including Colorado, are backing a congressional effort to suspend the 18.4-cent federal gas tax until next year. However, the measure has stalled in Congress.
