NORFOLK, Neb. -- A Norfolk man is in custody on domestic assault and child neglect charges.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Norfolk Police were called to a residence in the 200 block of S. 11th Street for an assault.

When officers arrived they had contact with a woman who stated that she had been in an argument with 32-year-old Jose A. Leon, of Norfolk. During the argument, Leon reportedly pushed her against a table and put his hands around her neck.

She was visibly shaken and covered in red marks around the front of her neck, Norfolk Police Capt. Michael Bauer said. Children were present during this assault.

Officers spoke to Leon about the alleged assault and arrested him for third-degree domestic assault and child neglect.

Leon was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
