NPD: Norfolk man arrested for alleged assault, resisting arrest

NORFOLK, Neb. -- A 30-year-old Norfolk man is in custody after a reported physical disturbance Sunday morning.
At 1:14 a.m. Sunday, Norfolk Police was called to the scene in the 100 block of Gold Strike Drive for reports of an altercation between a man and a woman.
According to Norfolk Police Captain Michael Bauer, when officers showed up to the door of the apartment, 30-year-old Jose Encarnacion answered the door and placed his wrists together as if to be handcuffed.
Officers made contact with both Encarnacion and a woman in the apartment, who Bauer said was "upset and crying".
Bauer said the woman explained that there had been a verbal argument that escalated to Encarnacion assaulting her. According to a press release issued by NPD, the woman had sustained injuries.
After officers spoke to Encarnacion, they placed him under arrest for third-degree domestic assault.
Bauer said that as officers escorted Encarnacion out of the apartment, he began to pull away and resisted moving toward the exit. Bauer said officers had to "physical assist" him out of the building.
Encarnacion was also charged with resisting arrest. He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
