STANTON, Neb. -- An Oregon man was arrested after a reported high-speed chase that spanned multiple counties late Saturday night.

Just after 10:00 p.m. Saturday, the Stanton County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle on Highway 275 near Pilger after it was reportedly observed driving with its headlights off. Sheriff Mike Unger said the 2009 Lincoln had also been driving erratically.

The driver, 39-year-old Chet Wilcox of Oregon, appeared to be under the influence, Unger said.

When a Stanton County deputy called for backup, Wilcox reportedly sped off at high rates of speed on Highway 275, entering into Cuming County.

The pursuit continued into Cuming County through Wisner, Beemer and West Point.

According to Unger, the West Point Police Department attempted to stop the vehicle using deflation spikes, but the attempt was unsuccessful.

The chase then moved into Dodge County before turning back north into Burt County on Highway 77.

Unger said the vehicle was stopped nearly an hour later near Lyons on Highway 77.

Wilcox was arrested, medically cleared, and jailed on numerous charges across multiple counties, including operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, and speeding at more than 100 mph.

Authorities discovered that Wilcox was wanted on similar charges in Georgia, Oklahoma and South Carolina.

According to Unger, Wilcox made claims to authorities on Saturday that he was a sovereign citizen and not required to submit to law enforcement.

Agencies involved in the pursuit included the Stanton County Sheriff's Office, West Point Police, the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, the Nebraska State Patrol, the Burt County Sheriff's Office and Oakland Police.
