NORFOLK, Neb. -- On Monday, the city of Norfolk approved a motion to demolish structures located at Liberty Bell Park.

The contract is for K Porter Construction and will cost $29,000 to demolish structures at Liberty Bell Park, including the pool. According to city parks and recreation director Nate Powell there simply isn't enough interest in the pool. He also stated that with AquaVenture park now an option, the pool can't be open nearly as much.

"Attendance has been about two to three thousand. It's weather dependent because it's not a heated pool...Since AquaVenture opened, it's been I think down for some time," Powell explained.

While there isn't an official plan yet, Powell says the city does plan to install new structures at the park, which could potentially include playground equipment, restrooms, a tennis court, and a picnic shelter. The city approved the contract with a unanimous 8-0 vote.
