STANTON, Neb. -- A nationwide grant program has added equipment to the Stanton County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Mike Unger announced Tuesday that his office had received four sets of tire deflation spikes through a grant from the United States Deputy Sheriff's Association.

Unger said the grant application was submitted by Deputy Tyler Evans. Following approval, the sheriff's office received the portable spikes. Unger said the spikes are worth more than $1,000.

"The spikes are a valuable tool used to slow and terminate pursuits and have proven very effective in the recent past," Unger said. "The sheriff's office is very thankful for the donation and appreciates the support of the Deputy Sheriff's Association."
