'Blast into Summer' in Stanton sees high turnout
Kids of all ages ponied on up to 10 different stations of interactive fun in Stanton, Saturday.
STANTON, Neb. -- Kids of all ages ponied on up to 10 different stations of interactive fun in Stanton, Saturday.
"This brought our kids back in," said LaLene Bates, president of Friends of Stanton Public Library.
Stanton Public Library has held off on big events since COVID-19, but they returned with a bang thanks to an ARPA grant of more than $4,000.
"I've seen kids I haven't seen before and just standing in line talking to each other," Bates said.
The community bonded over a virtual truck, a board game painted onto the street, pony rides, and even zoo visitors.
"I liked the weasel, cos Grandma has a weasel," said five-year-old Harlee.
The event wasn't just for fun -- Stanton County Sheriff's office also showed up to get some important work done.
"We're getting fingerprints and photographs -- we're giving that back to the parents. [...] If something were to happen, you could give this to your local law enforcement to help them out with trying to find your child," said Michael Peterson, Stanton County Sheriff Deputy.
Peterson also shared summer safety tips about campfire and pool behavior.
Organizers noted, that with 12 high school volunteers, it's the largest turnout Stanton's seen in a while.
