NORFOLK, Neb. -- With the school year over and warmer temperatures arriving in the region, trips to the swimming pool are back on the agenda in northeast Nebraska.

AquaVenture Water Park in Norfolk is back open for the summer months, and pool officials say the facility is off to a fast start, despite up-and-down temperatures since opening on Memorial Day weekend.

P.J. Evans, the recreation and aquatic supervisor for the City of Norfolk, said the park is off to a better start this year compared to last year.

“Our numbers are doing alright,” Evans said. “We’re excited. We’ve had over 1,500 people through the weekend before today.”

Evans mentioned why she thinks people choose to go to the water park.

“I think the atmosphere,” said Evans. “We take pride in our facility and I think that has a lot to do with it.  I think people enjoy just coming and spending some family time together,” she said.

The water park is open daily from 11:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. through the summer months.
