DAKOTA CITY, Neb. -- A former South Sioux City teacher and coach who was previously sentenced on a federal child pornography charge was sentenced Tuesday on two counts of first-degree sexual assault.
In Dakota County District Court, Judge Bryan C. Meismer sentenced 27-year-old Nathan Rogers to 15 years in prison on each charge. Rogers had pleaded guilty to both sexual assault charges.
Each count will be served concurrently and concurrent to a federal sentence for production of child pornography.
The charges stemmed from allegations by a 15-year-old girl that Rogers grabbed and sexually assaulted her at his home in 2020. She told investigators she had gone to his home because Rogers promised her a vape pen, used to inhale nicotine and flavorings.
It’s illegal in Nebraska for those under age 21 to buy our use vape products.
Rogers claimed the girl agreed to have sex with him.
The South Sioux City School District said Rogers hadn’t been employed by the district since March 3, 2021, the day police were contacted about the allegations.
Agencies involved in the investigation, arrest, and prosecution of Rogers include the Attorney General’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, the U.S. Dept of Justice, and the U.S. District Attorney’s Office.
