BATTLE CREEK, Neb. -- Authorities in northeast Nebraska responded to a single-vehicle accident that resulted in the death of a Norfolk man.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office said that 67-year-old, Albert Reeves of Norfolk, was found in his vehicle in the ditch just east of 545 Ave. on 834th Road, southwest of Battle Creek around 8 a.m. on Sunday.

MCSO said deputies responded and found a 2022 Nissan Xterra in a creek bed on the south side of the road with heavy damage.

It was reported that deputies decided that sometime the night before, the vehicle left the roadway and hit a bridge abutment before the vehicle was airborne. After becoming airborne, the vehicle then struck the opposite side of the creek bed before coming to rest in the creek bed.

According to authorities, Reeves was killed during the crash.

Reeves was the driver and only person in the vehicle, according to officials.

MCSO said Reeves next of kin has been notified.

Authorities said alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor in the accident, and seat belts were not in use at the time of the crash.
