One dead, one injured in Wayne County accident

Authorities said one person died during a Thursday morning accident in Wayne County.

WAYNE, Neb. -- Authorities said one person died during a Thursday morning accident in Wayne County.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office said that 38-year-old Caleb Jeppesen was pronounced dead at the collision scene. 

The accident happened about six miles east of Wayne on Highway 35, and the Sheriff's Office said that Jeppesen was driving east when he collided with a semi-truck heading west. 

The semi was driver by a 29-year-old Minnesota man, who was reportedly taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. 

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office said they were assisted by Wakefield Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Wayne Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Nebraska State Patrol, and the Nebraska Department of Transportation. 

This is an ongoing investigation.
