Norfolk City Council member submits resignation citing health issues

Norfolk council member Gary L. Jackson has submitted his resignation citing health issues.

NORFOLK, Neb -- According to the Norfolk City Council's agenda for their Tuesday meeting a member has submitted a resignation.

Gary L. Jackson who represents Ward 3 in the city submitted his resignation letter on Jan. 11, in an email. Jackson who has represented Ward 3 for six years said it had been an honor to serve with the city of Norfolk, but health issues were forcing him to resign.

"It is with a heavy heart due to health issues that I am resigning," Jackson wrote in his letter. "It has been a great honor and pleasure to serve with the city staff, Mayor Moenning, and the current council. It has been a privileged felt six years upon being elected by the Constituents of Ward 3. I hope the citizens of Norfolk can see what a great City Staff, Mayor and Council that they have in place. They are very forward thinking, community minded and transparent group that I could have worked with."

Should Jackson's resignation be accepted, a special city council meeting will be called on Wednesday, Feb. 1 to fill the council vacancy.
