Omaha man arrested near Stanton for alleged stolen vehicle

A man from Omaha was arrested in northeast Nebraska for reportedly stealing vehicle.

SPURVILLE, Neb. -- A man from Omaha was arrested in northeast Nebraska for reportedly stealing vehicle.

The Stanton County Sheriff's Office said they received a report around 10:30 p.m. on Friday that a stolen SUV from Iowa was traveling west on Highway 51, east of Wisner. 

Officials said the SUV was reported stolen earlier from a convenience store in Onawa, Iowa. The owner had reportedly left his 2018 Tahoe running while he went into the store to get a drink.

According to authorities, an unknown man got into the SUV and drove off towards the state line. SCSO reported that they found the SUV traveling through Stanton County and were able to stop the vehicle.

Officers said they performed a traffic stop on Highway 275, about one mile east of Spurville. Multiple officers were reportedly stationed near the junction of Highway 57 and Highway 275 and deflation spikes were put out just in case the suspect tried to flee.

SCSO said the driver of the SUV was 38-year-old Corey Dugger, of Omaha. He was arrested for theft by receiving, driving during suspension, and being a habitual criminal due to Dugger having served prison time for more than two prior felony convictions.

According to authorities, the SUV was returned to the owner. Monona County, Iowa is reportedly going to be pressing felony theft charges against Dugger as well.
