HARTINGTON, Neb. -- Authorities are investigating a shooting that killed one person near Hartington.

The Nebraska State Patrol said the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a work site near the intersection of Highway 57 and 885 Road, one mile north of Hartington, on Wednesday morning.

Officers said they found a victim that had several gunshot wounds. Life-attempting measures were reportedly made by witnesses at the scene.

According to authorities, the victim was taken to a nearby hospital but later died. CCSO reportedly asked that NSP begin a homicide investigation.

Officials said they believe a workplace argument began between the suspect and victim, leading to the shooting. The reported suspect is 20-year-old David Phillips, of Louisiana. Phillips was taken into custody and has charges pending.

NSP said they are not releasing the name of the victim at this time as they are still notifying the family. The investigation is ongoing.
