WAYNE, Neb. -- A pre-trial hearing for a northeast Nebraska teacher accused of a sexual relationship with a student has been pushed back to next month.

Last week, the attorney for former Winside family and consumer sciences teacher Cali Heikes asked for a continuance, stating that both parties are gathering more information "in the hope of resolving the issues in the case."

There were no objections from prosecutors, and on Monday, Judge Mark Johnson granted the continuance. Heikes was originally scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

Heikes is now due in court on the morning of July 5.

Last month, Heikes pleaded not guilty to three felonies related to the case.

The 26-year-old was arrested in January after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.

A graduate of Winside High School and Wayne State College, Heikes is currently out on bond. In March, her bond was doubled after authorities reportedly discovered a letter written by Heikes to the alleged victim.
