'Art is everywhere': Norfolk Public Library unveils new sculpture by local artist
NORFOLK, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska artist has become an integral part of his hometown library.
Lonn Atwood’s sculpture, based around the theme “flights of fancy,” was unveiled at the Norfolk Public Library Thursday night.
"I thought something that would be fun was to take ordinary objects and make them into something more extraordinary," Atwood said.
Atwood used books and hangers to help make his piece, which hangs from the ceiling of the library.
"I think a lot of people look at art as something that you have to attend or have to purchase or have to drive to, where I'm of the mind that art is everywhere; it's all around you and it's just a matter of seeing something that's not there yet," Atwood said.
Atwood’s work is the second local commission by the library, joining a painting by Michael Lynch last year.
Lynch was in attendance for Atwood’s presentation.
