NORFOLK, Neb. -- Exciting news for the Norfolk community! The Norfolk Housing Agencies, in collaboration with Neighbor Works, have been hard at work developing new housing solutions for our ever-growing community of Norfolk.

They have already built 38 units and have three housing options residents can choose from.

"We are in the midst of building River Fork Villas, which will serve those 55 and older," Executive Director of Norfolk Housing Agencies Rita Heineman said. "Currently, there are 18 units with two bedrooms, one bath, and a one-car garage. We are also partners with NeighborWorks, who built River Walk Villas and serve all ages. Those will have three or four bedrooms. Also, in 2026, Benjamin Villas will be built, and they will serve larger families."

For those looking for residency, there is a waiting list. The agency said units tend to go fast, and residents should call, email, or show up to start their qualification process as soon as possible.

"It is a pretty simple process," Heineman said. "There is paperwork like there is with everything. We do a criminal and credit check. With Section 8, we do more criminal checks than anything."

The Norfolk Housing Agency also works and partners with landlords to provide housing.

"It's a way landlords can help out in their community, but also they can have that income that they are looking for," Heineman said. "It also helps both parties work through things and come to a resolution that's beneficial to one another."

"We also do inspections before people move in, and while they're there, we do them annually or biannually, depending upon how often they want them done. In the end, we guarantee the landlord their rent and for the tenant, what would cost $1,200-$1,500 might only be $600 or $700 with us."
