STANTON, Neb. -- A man was transported by a helicopter after an explosive reportedly went off in his car.

The Stanton County Sheriff's Office said they responded to the incident early Monday morning, southwest of Stanton.

The Sheriff's Office said a 50-year-old man was injured after an unknown explosion went off inside his vehicle.

The explosion caused "traumatic" injuries to a hand and other parts of his body, according to SCSO.

The Sheriff's Office arrived within minutes of the explosion and began treatment before the man was transported.

A LifeNet helicopter transported the man to a Norfolk hospital for emergency surgery. 

The Sheriff's Office said the investigation into what happened is ongoing. However, they said the initial investigation shows some type of firework or homemade explosive is responsible.
