HUMPHREY, Neb. -- An effort to fund the construction of a new school in northeast Nebraska has failed.
About 59 percent of voters rejected a $39 million bond measure to construct a new school in Humphrey.
That's according to unofficial results posted to the Humphrey Bond Facebook page.
Of the 1,092 ballots turned in by Tuesday, 634 voted against the measure, with 455 voting for it.
The Humphrey School Board approved the special election in June.
If passed, it would have allowed for construction of a new facility for seventh through 12th grades on land purchased by the district.
The building currently used by the district would have been retro-fitted for pre-K through sixth grade.
