MADISON, Neb. -- Norfolk man arrested for terroristic threats and assault in addition to an investigation out of Madison.

Around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, the Stanton County Sheriff's Office was requested by the Madison Police Department to have contact with a suspect at the Off-Road Ranch southeast of Norfolk.

SCSO said the call was in regard to a terroristic threats case in Madison.

Authorities said that the suspect, 52-year-old Barry Nichols of Norfolk, was spoken and at which time he reportedly became belligerent and tried to assault a deputy.

The Sheriff's Office said that Nichols was subdued and placed under arrest for assault and obstructing a police officer.

After being placed in the patrol vehicle, Nichols allegedly threatened to kill the deputy and his family.

Nichols was then also charged with terroristic threats and jailed.

SCSO said that Nichols is on probation for an earlier assault during the summer at the Off-Road Ranch where a female was assaulted.

Nichols is also facing a terroristic threat charge in Madison County for the original case that was being investigated by Madison P.D.
