NORFOLK, Neb. -- A new candidate has thrown their hat in the ring to become a Norfolk city council member.

Jeff Jensen announced his candidacy Monday morning through a press release, stating his intentions to run for the Ward 3 council seat.

A longtime resident of Norfolk and Norfolk Lions Club member, Jensen will face off against Councilman Justin Snorton for the position.

In the press release, Jensen said the people of Norfolk "needed true representation" and that the mayor and council should be accountable to the citizens they serve.

Jensen also stated that if elected he would "bring the city budget more in line the way the citizens want their tax dollars managed" and be an open and honest representative.

Jensen looks to change how the council handles spending, stating the council needs to be fiscally responsible with tax dollars and that spent money needs to be accountable for all citizens and benefit the entire city.
