WAYNE, Neb. -- Two people died from a two-vehicle accident in Wayne County on Sunday night.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office said officers were sent to the intersection of Highway 35 and 566th Ave. at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday for a report of a two-vehicle crash.

According to authorities, the first vehicle was going west on Highway 35 when it had stopped, yielding to traffic in order to turn onto 566th Ave.

Officers said a Honda trike was also going west when it hit the rear of the first vehicle. The two people on the trike, Jerry and Karen Sievers, were reportedly thrown from the vehicle due to the impact and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police stated that a passenger of the first vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. A portion of the highway was shut down for two hours.

The crash is currently under investigation.
