MINNETONKA, Minn. -- Medica announced winners of its 2024 ACO Engagement Awards at its Seventh Annual ACO Engagement Summit, held Oct. 2-3 in Minneapolis. The awards recognize Medica’s ACO partners for their efforts to engage members, enhance quality and improve efficiencies.

“Our provider partners are key to providing optimal care to Medica members in the moments that matter, which often is at the point when they are receiving care,” said Dr. David Webster, Medica’s Chief Clinical and Provider Strategy Officer. “It’s always rewarding to have our provider partners take the time to gather to share best practices in the areas that are vital to our common goal of improving care outcomes and member experience. We are always grateful to hear and learn from our provider partners.”

Medica’s annual ACO Engagement Summit brings together value-based care teams from across Medica’s service area for best practice sharing and connecting and collaborating on ways to further improve delivery of value-based care.

The 2024 award winners are:

  • Allina Health, Minneapolis, received the Member Engagement award for an increase in percentage of members attributed and seen for preventive care. The award is a composite measure of both the increase in preventative care visits and reduction in the rate of Medica members who have not been seen in the previous rolling 12 months.
  • Park Nicollet, Minneapolis, received the Stewardship Award for a decrease in risk adjusted per member per month. The award is based on a composite measure of the largest reduction (% change) in risk adjusted PMPM as a global measure of care affordability, combined with a reduction in potentially avoidable emergency department visits in efforts to eliminate unnecessary high-cost care.
  • Nebraska Health Network, Omaha, received the Quality Award for best overall performance in clinical quality metrics for colon cancer and breast cancer screening. Medica’s quality performance award recognizes the best care system performance in a composite of three quality measures: two preventative measures--colon and breast cancer screening rates and excellence in a chronic condition care measured by rates of hemoglobin a1c control in people with diabetes.
  • M Health Fairview, Minneapolis, won the People’s Choice Creative Courage Award with an idea for a resource that would improve value based care. The idea was to provide more in-home services to members, such as post-hospital visits, visiting nurses, and community health workers. This year, Medica's People’s Choice Award for Creative Courage was designed to highlight creative ideas submitted by ACO Engagement Summit attendees.
  • Unity Point in Des Moines, received the Value-Based Care Ambassador Award for its engagement with independent providers by creating the Provider Insight Report, asking for updates to member lists with trending data, conducting provider opportunity report meetings, and for attending and engaging in Medica’s Value-Based Office Hours series.
