Former Crofton, USD basketball player unexpectedly dies at 30

CROFTON, Neb. -- A former Crofton and USD basketball player unexpectedly died at 30 years old on Oct. 25.
Bridget (Arens) Schumacher, of Crofton, died unexpectedly at a hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.
Schumacher played basketball for Crofton High School and the University of South Dakota.
In high school, Schumacher led her Crofton team to a 2012 Nebraska C2 State Championship. During her time at USD, she played in every game each season. In the the 2015-16 season she helped her team win the Women's National Invitation Tournament. In her final season with USD, she was South Dakota's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earned South Dakota's Courage Award and she was South Dakota's school record holder for career games played - 137.
She leaves behind four kids and her husband Taylor Schumacher.
Schumacher was an elementary guidance counselor at Crofton. She was close to obtaining her master's in school administration when she passed.
Her visitation will be on Nov. 1 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Bridget Rose Schumacher will be Nov. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
The Mass will be streamed live and will be able to be watched on Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service's Facebook page.
Her burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery.
