Pleasanton voters approve $11 million school bond

PLEASANTON, Neb. — Residents of a Central Nebraska school district are giving approval to an eight-figure facility upgrade.
Voters in the Pleasanton school district voted 341-265 in favor of an $11 million bond issue on Tuesday. Out of the 606 votes cast, about 56% were in favor.
The money will turn a courtyard into a new media center. It will also add eight high school classrooms, six elementary classrooms, an improved activity entrance, additional parking and expand the shop space to offer more career, technical and agricultural programs.
The bond was proposed amid growing enrollment. The district’s enrollment was 264 a decade ago. It’s now at 331, which represents a 25% increase. The district expects to add another 20-some students to its total over the next five years.
Construction could start this summer. The project is expected to take two years to complete.
