NORFOLK, Neb. — The City of Norfolk is moving forward with three candidates for its open police chief position.

The city announced David McCart, Eric Sellers and Brian Tighe as the finalists on Tuesday.

The next round of interviews will take place the week of May 5 and will include sessions with the Public Safety Subcommittee, the internal Search Committee, and a City employee forum to gather staff feedback. Final selection is expected by the end of May.

The police chief search follows the controversial departure of former chief Don Miller and two other high-ranking police officials.

Here are the city’s biographies for each finalist:

David McCart

A Norfolk-area native, David McCart brings over a decade of experience with the Madison County Sheriff's Department, rising from Correctional Officer to Lieutenant. He holds a Master's degree in Organizational Management with a focus on criminal justice and is highly trained in investigations, leadership, and tactical operations. Known for his integrity and community-driven mindset, McCart is passionate about fostering safety, clear communication, and positive public service.

Eric Sellers

Eric Sellers began his law enforcement career in 1998 with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and has held numerous leadership roles, including commanding the Criminal Investigations Bureau where he currently serves as a Captain of Uniformed Services Bureau. He has overseen patrols, investigations, tactical units, and support services. Sellers holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff & Command. His experience includes strategic planning, emergency management, and project leadership.

Brian Tighe

A 35-year veteran of the Norfolk Police Division, Brian Tighe currently serves as Acting Chief of Police. He has led the department through significant transitions, emphasizing transparency, recruitment, and community trust. Tighe holds over 3,600 hours of specialized training, is a graduate of the Organizational Leadership program at Harvard Business School Online, and is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He is known for his collaborative leadership style and deep commitment to the Norfolk community.
