WAYNE, Neb. — Across Nebraska, leaders from the Department of Economic Development (DED) are engaging with local communities to discuss strategies for job creation, business development, and affordable housing solutions.

The tour kicked off at the Freedom Park Shelter in Wayne, providing a platform for state officials and residents to exchange ideas on critical resources and priorities, particularly housing.

Nebraska Department of Economic Development Director K.C. Belitz emphasized the need for innovative approaches. "We have tools and resources through the Nebraska Departments of Economic Development, Labor, and Education," Belitz stated. "The key is to explore how we can collaborate to create something truly innovative. We can't rely on the same old methods if we want to address our housing challenges effectively."

The discussions also highlighted the importance of retaining young talent in Nebraska. "Governor Pillen is deeply invested in the future of Nebraska's youth," Belitz noted. "We're focusing on local initiatives to connect students from kindergarten through 12th grade with opportunities in their communities. Whether it's in their hometown or a neighboring one, we want to ensure they see a future here."

The Nebraska Department of Economic Development stressed that progress hinges on community input. "Many of the best ideas come from Nebraskans working on the ground every day," the department said in a statement. "We encourage residents to share their insights and innovative solutions with us. The Nebraska Department of Economic Development is committed to listening and learning from these valuable perspectives."
