NORFOLK, Neb. — Nobody is injured after a hay bale fire drew a response from three different departments.

The fire started around 7:00 Saturday night at a feedlot roughly eight miles south of Norfolk. Firefighters and tanker trucks from Norfolk, Madison and Stanton all responded to the blaze. Video from the scene shows workers using heavy machinery to spread out the hay. Norfolk Fire officials say that allows the fire to burn out more quickly.

The specific cause of the fire isn’t clear, but officials say it’s something that happens when conditions are hot, dry and windy.

Fire crews remained on scene for more than 2.5 hours.
