LINCOLN, Neb. -- After starting his college football career at Texas, Casey Thompson plans to continue his career at one of the Longhorns' former rivals -- Nebraska.

The 6'1" dual-threat quarterback announced his commitment to transfer to the Huskers on Friday.

Thompson visited Lincoln with his father, a former Oklahoma quarterback, on Wednesday. He was unable to tour the Huskers' athletic facilities or speak with the team's coaches, due to the current recruiting dead period.

Thompson started 10 games for the Longhorns in 2021. He completed 185 passes for 2,422 yards and 30 touchdowns in his career, including 2,113 yards and 24 touchdowns this season.

Thompson will come to Nebraska with two years of eligibility remaining.

At Nebraska, Thompson joins Logan Smothers and Heinrich Haarberg as the only scholarship quarterbacks on the roster after Adrian Martinez transferred to Kansas State this offseason. San Antonio native Richard Torres will also join the program this fall after signing his letter of intent in December.

The Huskers also appear to remain in the market for Arizona native Chubba Purdy, the brother of Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy, is scheduled to visit the Huskers next week. Purdy had been previously recruited by new Nebraska offensive coordinator Mark Whipple while Whipple was still at Pitt.
