Press release

PILGER, Neb. — The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-vehicle injury crash Wednesday morning on Highway 275 about three miles west of Pilger.

Authorities say the crash happened around 11:11 a.m. near 572nd Avenue when an eastbound Kia left the roadway for unknown reasons, entered the south ditch and rolled several times, trapping the lone driver inside the vehicle.

The 42-year-old female driver from Norfolk was extricated from the wreckage using the “Jaws of Life” by Pilger Fire and Rescue. She was first transported by ambulance to Faith Regional Health Services and later transferred to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for further treatment.

Officials say seat belts and multiple airbags likely prevented more serious injuries. Authorities also say it is possible the driver suffered a medical episode before the crash, which was not witnessed.

The vehicle was declared a total loss.

Stanton County Emergency Management and Wisner Rescue also assisted at the scene.
