NEBRASKA -- Right now, Nebraska issues new license plates every six years.

A proposal in the Nebraska Legislature would change that to every 10 years.

The proposal by State Senator Suzanne Geist would also increase license plate fees from $3.50 to $5.00.

The measure saw some pushback in a hearing on Tuesday. The Nebraska Association of County Officials testified that license plates often become too damaged to continue using after six years, particularly on high-profile vehicles.

No action was taken on the bill by the transportation committee.
