SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. -- A Saturday evening fire in South Sioux City was minimized after intervention by a passerby.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, a passerby spotted fire in the area of Golf Road and College Way. South Sioux City Police Officer Mitch Conklin, who was on patrol, was flagged down by the person who spotted the fire.

Conklin, Officer Dan Caskey and a Dakota County Sheriff's Deputy were able to assist in removing the residents from the house and keep the fire from spreading inside the structure by using fire extinguishers and a garden hose.

There has been no official word on the monetary amount of any damages to the house.
