Frost advisories, freeze warnings take effect across Nebraska
NORFOLK, Neb. -- Nebraskans woke up to colder temperatures on Friday, with much of the state in a frost advisory.
All but three of Nebraska's 93 counties were either in a frost advisory until either late Friday morning or early Saturday morning.
A freeze warning goes into effect for much of eastern Nebraska and parts of north central Nebraska until Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service advises taking steps to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly, NWS officials said Friday morning.
NWS also advises draining in-ground sprinkler systems and covering above ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
Statewide lows are projected as far down as 27 degrees Saturday morning for places like Albion, Falls City and Ord.
Areas such as the Panhandle could see some precipitation, though communities like Sidney could see temperatures bounce back up into the 70s this weekend.
