MADISON, Neb. -- The Madison County Sheriff's Office has released the names of those involved in a fatality and injury accident on Tuesday.

The Sheriff's Office said the man who was pronounced dead at the scene was 43-year-old Joshua Wall of Elkhorn.

The woman from Tilden who sustained life-threatening injuries, was 33-year-old Ericka McCarthy.

Next of kin have been notified.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office said they responded to the accident Tuesday morning around 7:30 a.m. The accident happened two miles east of Meadow Grove on Highway 275.

When deputies arrived to the scene, they found Wall, who was driving an SUV, and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Sheriff's Office said rescue personnel from Meadow Grove and Battle Creek extricated McCarthy from a pickup truck. She sustained life-threatening injuries and required additional assistance from Norfolk Rescue.

Law enforcement's preliminary investigation found that the SUV was heading west and crossed into the eastbound lanes, causing the pickup driving to try to swerve away but instead a head-on collision happened.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office, with help from the Nebraska State Patrol, is continuing to investigate the incident.
